In this
update, I have the great pleasure to introduce Daniel, "Manpower" from
Leipzig (in the former G.D.R.). He is one of "the" new discoveries
of the year 2001.
Daniel has
just turned 20. He is studying civil engineering, specifically, building
design and construction. Being very industrious, he also holds two
part-time jobs: one at a night club and the other at a gym. Interestingly,
he is also a black-belt in Judo and has just become the Middle German Master
on Oct. 1.
There are many
guys and girls who look good under certain lighting and at certain angles.
A good photo model, however, should look good anytime, anywhere, (under
all lighting and at all angles). Daniel meets this requirement from the
front, profile, back, face, upper body, and the legs! He is totally photogenic
from all angles.
Anyway, Daniel
applied for a casting at a German model agency and I "tested" him. In a
"test shoot" the model-wannabes are being tested for their photogenity.
But it's not only to see how pretty their faces are and how well-built
they are, it's also important to see how punctual and reliable they are,
how easy (or difficult) they are to work with, and how natural they pose
and what attitude they may have.
At least in
middle Europe, in winter, it's not a good thing for models to be very sensitive
to the cold. If it's less than 60F, I'm considerate, but starting
at 60F, I don't care any more. If a guy can't take 60F, perhaps he
should consider doing the photography, rather than modeling :-)
As our location,
we chose an old, out of service, industrial building and the main building
of the "Brüderhilfe" ("brothers' help") in Kassel, my home town. "Brothers'
help" is not what you might think - it is a health insurance company for
fathers, priests and other employees of the big churches.
Getting back
to Daniel, my favorite feature is his cute smile. The ability to smile
means a lot to me. I have seen many model portfolios with great pictures
and fantastic bodies, but the models never smile. People who can't smile
and laugh are suspicious to me. Daniel has beautiful dimples, and together
with his deep dark eyes they create a very appealing smile.
Moreover, he
has a cute Saxon accent. Background note: Germany was not a united
nation, in modern times, until 1871, so all of the states developed more
or less separately (often secluded), resulting in regional dialects and
specific habits. I am from Baden (Southwest Germany) myself and also can't
get rid of my slight accent, so I can barely make fun of this. But
seriously, in today's federal "Europe of regions" specialties and differences
from here or there are welcome and underline the individuality of each
region and country.
As this will
be the last MalePerceptions Update before Christmas of 2001, I am taking
this opportunity to thank all of my faithful visitors for visiting my site
on a regular basis. As a little Christmas gift, you may download all of
Daniel's pictures in big size as a (password-protected) zip-file.
The password
is the middle name of the German composer who lived in the same city as
Daniel. He lived there from 1685 to 1750 and was "Thomaskantor". Daniel
is not a Thomaskantor, but he is still alive ...
Daniel is the
cover model of the MaleAppeal calendar 2002. For more details and to buy
the huge-sized (42x60cm = 16.5x23.6 inches) calendar, click

More
pictures of Daniel, from our five-day shoot in Miami, Florida, are on the
MalePerceptions
CD 2002. Daniel was even more tanned and worked-out.
